I started dancing at my local dance school at the age of three and was instantly hooked. At the age of sixteen I successfully auditioned for some of the countries top Performing arts colleges and took my place on the three year full time teacher training course at the prestigious Northern Ballet School in Manchester. I graduated NBS with all my dance exams, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance Associate Teacher exams’ in Tap, Modern, Ballet & National (all Distinction) The Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certificate in Classical Ballet (Distinction) RAD Child Psychology, History of Dance & Anatomy, the NBS Teaching Diploma and the teaching prize for my year. Although teaching was always my main goal, I also knew I wanted to dance professionally first, feeling that I would have more to give to my students if I had danced myself and experienced the reality of a career in performing arts. I danced on several cruise ships, including the Seabreeze and Oceanbreeze for Dolphin Cruise Line in Miami, The Vistafjord, Sagafrjord, Royal Viking Sun and QE2 for Cunard and was able to travel the world, before meeting my husband and settling down.
In 2002 we moved to Yorkshire and I started G-Force Dance Academy, we were based in Ackworth initially, then opened another branch in Sharlston. As the years went on it became clear that we were outgrowing our hired venues in both of those areas and in 2017 we moved into a new premises. Normanton where we now have central heating, 2 studios, mirrors, sprung floor, ballet barres, acro equipment, a waiting room for parents and changing space for our students.
Gaynor Datson is the designated safeguarding lead, and first aider and all our teachers have a DBS certificate.
I look forward to welcoming you and your child to G-Force Dance Academy
where we pride ourselves on great quality technical training at an affordable cost, whether your child is a hobby dancer or wants to take their dance further.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Happy dancing
Miss Datson
A: All children are different and at a young age if they need you in class for the first week or so then that is not a problem. Most children settle quickly but some children need a week with a parent in just to see what class is about. Parents are always welcome to stay in the waiting room where you can hear the class going on and greet your little one as soon as they have finished class and come down to you with their teacher.
A: No, fees are taken half termly at a time, usually each half term lasts between 5-7 weeks, you will be sent an invoice prior to each half term.
A: No, exams are optional, although participation in the exam process helps students to achieve their full potential before they move up to the next class. Exams also build resillience and technical training
A: Pointe work should not be attempted by children under the age 12 due to the growth plates in their feet not being fully formed. Ideally by the age of 12 children should already be doing two ballet classes per week plus some conditioning exercises for their feet, ankles and core. We take our pointe work training seriously and believe that with the right exercises and safe dance practice that most ballet students will be able to try pointe work if they are commited to their classes.
